STRONGSVILLE, Ohio — Viewpoint Construction Software announced last week that it has agreed to purchase longtime competitor Dexter + Chaney, developer of Spectrum® construction software.
“We are going to pick up some great things that Dexter + Chaney has done with their product,” Viewpoint CEO Manolis Kotzabasakis said, according to Engineering News-Record (ENR). “We will continue with our cloud-based product but we are going to combine the best of each breed and try to unify the platform.”
The acquisition is expected to bring the combined customer base to over 8,000, according to ENR. To date, Dexter + Chaney supports more than 1,100 contractors, which it accumulated serving the construction industry since 1981. Prior to receiving equity investments from Pamlico Capital in 2015, the company was independently owned by its leadership for many years.
Dexter + Chaney will be added among several successful acquisitions by Viewpoint in recent years. Most prominently, Viewpoint purchased Maxwell Systems and its ProContractor™ software from LLR Partners in 2014. Additionally, the company acquired North Carolina-based Construction Imaging in 2012, Florida-based ACS Connect in 2013 and Sydney-based Jobpac in 2015. Viewpoint’s latest acquisition is expected to close in the next two to four weeks.
Centered in Portland, Oregon, Viewpoint is owned by global investment firm Bain Capital, which in 2014 purchased equity stakes in Viewpoint previously owned by Updata Partners and TA Associates.
